TCM Advances Preparations for Proposed Doctor of Medicine Program

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte — The College of Maasin (TCM) advanced its preparations for the proposed Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program through a Consultative Meeting and Faculty Development activity on October 9, 2026, bringing institutional leaders and medical professionals together to discuss academic readiness, faculty development, and the foundations of quality medical education.

The hybrid meeting, held at the TCM Board Room, was attended face-to-face by Rev. Dr. Joshue Zuriel G. Tiempo, School President; Mrs. Jannes E. Barrera, Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA); and Dr. April Gervie B. Macabuhay. Dr. Neki Soriano and Dr. Ferdinand Zapata joined the discussions via Zoom.

The consultation focused on key considerations in developing the proposed program, including strengthening faculty competence, preparing academic requirements, and ensuring alignment with the standards and expectations of medical education. The discussions also highlighted the value of collaboration and continuous professional development in building the academic capacity needed to support future medical students.

The initiative forms part of TCM’s broader efforts to expand its academic offerings and explore opportunities in medical education. The proposed program reflects the College’s aspiration to contribute to healthcare development by preparing future physicians equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional values needed to serve their communities.

Rooted in its Christian faith and mission, TCM envisions developing Christian physicians who combine medical excellence with compassion, integrity, humility, and Christ-centered service. Through this vision, the College seeks to nurture healthcare professionals who regard healing not only as a profession but also as a calling to serve humanity.

As preparations continue, the consultative meeting marks another step in TCM’s efforts to establish a strong foundation for its proposed MD Program, guided by academic quality and a commitment to developing physicians who will make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
